        The Color Morale

Life brings two kinds of pain: the kind that hurts and the kind that transforms.

THE COLOR MORALE stands with their fans. Hurting together. Healing together. Strengthening each other through the common bonds of brokenness, suffering and a hope for redemption. The group’s ever-building following stands with them, too: they made the Alternative Press cover stars’ third album #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and flood their social media channels with heartfelt messages of encouragement.

The Color Morale is conscious of the power of heavy riffs, big melodies and impassioned truths to relieve and communicate. The idea behind Hold On Pain Ends, is as refreshingly simple as the old adage, “If you’re going through Hell… Keep going.”

On their fourth album and first for Fearless Records, the Alternative Press cover stars and Breakthrough Band nominees explore new depths of power, emotion and feeling.

This generation is under assault. Broken homes, neglectful parents, dystopian urban landscapes, draconian education centers – it’s no wonder so many are in the throes of addiction, or succumbing to self-harm, or starving themselves, or inducing vomiting just to feel “good enough” or “good looking,” or in some cases, just to feel at all. But anguish doesn’t have to be permanent. That’s why the album is called Hold On Pain Ends.

Lead singer and cofounder Garret Rapp doesn’t mince words when talking about purpose. “If you’re in a band and your band gets big at all, you really can use that to do a lot of good. Bands come and go, so make the best of your time. When I’m at the show, my time should be spent out there on the ground, in the dirt, with everyone else there.”

It’s from that pressing of the flesh and conversation with the fans that Rapp and the rest of The Color Morale – guitarists Devin King and Aaron Saunders, bassist Mike Honsonand cofounder/drummer Steve Carey – drew inspiration for Hold On Pain Ends. Producer Mike Green (Paramore, Pierce The Veil, All Time Low) enabled the band to hone in on their most vibrant, focused and overwhelmingly powerful collection of songs.

The early rumble of We All Have Demons (2009) and My Devil in Your Eyes (2011) can still be heard, with plenty of slices of the creative bombast of the band’s breakthrough album, Know Hope (2013), throughout. Longtime The Color Morale true believers will be thrilled with Hold On Pain Ends. Fans of rabblerousing radio saboteurs Rise Against, post-hardcore artisans Glassjaw and post-punkers Face To Face should take heed, too.

Armed with the life experience and the talent to convey a realistic but ultimately positive message in a way that resonates with those under the thumb of life’s more awful alternatives to a healthy existence, The Color Morale confess their personal problems as a means of showing empathy with what their audience is going through.

“Prey for Me” sets the tone for The Color Morale’s fully realized musical identity. “Damnaged” offers an impassioned exploration of Rapp’s rocky childhood. “Outer Demons” has an old-school punk meets metalcore feel. “Suicide doesn’t end the pain, it passes it to the ones you loved and remains,” Rapp bellows in “Suicide;Stigma,” which offers some semblance of solutions. Dave Stephens from We Came As Romans guests. Speaking of guests, Craig Owens from Chiodos lends a hand on “Developing Negative,” which tackles another difficult subject from a very personal place. “I’ve struggled with addiction,” Rapp confesses. “Even my best friends don’t know about it.”

The Color Morale’s insistence on communication, participation and inspiration puts them in front of the pack, as the band crisscrosses the globe connecting with crowds while on tour with contemporaries like Of Mice & Men, We Came As Romans, Escape The Fate, August Burns Red and The Devil Wears Prada. Each performance is a chance to further erode the false divide between band and audience. The Color Morale breaks down that wall, brick by brick, with every performance and every fan interaction.

“At the end of the day, I just want to find the place where I can do the most good in my life,” Rapp concludes. “I think the place I’ll do the most good right now is helping kids deal with messed up their surroundings are and how hard life can be at times.”

                Throw the Goat

If ever there was a band to smash the idea of "don't judge a book by its cover," Throw The Goat are the guys for the job. The ridiculous band name immediately suggests a far-from-serious piss-take of a project, while track names like 'Beef' and "Havin' A Beer' don't exactly quench such presumptions. However, this debut full-length from the Californian four-piece is a punk steel toecap up the dusty backside of stoner rock, and the results make for something that wouldn't sound out of place in the background of a skate video. They are a musical wrecking ball that will bulldoze their way through your eardrums and into your head. Resistance is futile; prepare to hum for days afterward.
                Angela Davey - Terrorizer Magazine

Throw the Goat play from their soul. Some bands can care less about trends and stardom and just go for it. On their debut release Black Mountain, they perfectly blend hardcore punk, stoner metal and the aggressiveness of Motorhead. They create infectious vocal melodies with simple upbeat pit induced rhythms. They come across 100 percent authentic and capture the crossover era in all its glory. The track “Too Late” is Throw the Goat at their best. The groove during the verses is undeniable and the D.R.I. inspired vocal melody is killer. The chorus has an excellent clean vocal that the Ramones would be proud of. Opener “Southeast Bound” is ripped right out of Lemmy’s playbook and comes slamming out of the gates. The hilarious “Havin’ a Beer” and “Beef” are both punk anthems that capture the sprit of the band perfectly."
                Dan Drago - heavymetal.about.com

The sound which Throw The Goat have created is an outstandingly explosive mixture of metal and rock with a dose of punk which makes it all the more incendiary. The band released their debut album Black Mountain in September 2012 and this is just so riotous and addictive, it is a powerful party mix of songs which are ass kickingly compelling. The first three songs, ‘Southeast Bound’, ‘Too Late’ and ‘Last Call’ are all full throttle assaults which could easily get you pogo-ing around in the mosh pit. These are a wonderful intro to the rest of the album which is a stunning collection of hard hitting dirty stoner rock packed full of attitude and delivered with a healthy heap of power. Ending with a party track called ‘Having A Beer’ Black Mountain is a stunning debut album, 9/10”

                      Andy Frasco & The UN

Andy Frasco, the 27-year old Los Angeles, CA native singer / songwriter / band maestro / entrepreneur /

party starter / everyday hustler, and his band of gypsies “The U.N.” have been cited frequently as “Party

Blues,” but the band’s musical inspirations and influences run much deeper incorporating elements of

Soul, Funk, and Rock as well as tones of Roots, and Americana, creating a much more diverse sound and

style that is distinctly Andy Frasco & the U.N.

Frasco’s shows have been described as infectious, entertaining, and feel good. His performances are

recognized as orchestrated chaos, inciting frenzied, undeniable good times, dancing, and perhaps even a

                      good ole fashion freak out.

Touring independently across the U.S. and Europe since he was 18 years old, Frasco first got his taste of

the music industry managing and promoting bands when he was 16 years old -booking bands like Hello

Goodbye, and working with labels such as Drive Thru and Atlantic Records, as well as venues like The

                      Key Club in Hollywood, CA.

Since his start, Frasco has embodied a DIY attitude and work ethic, making the road his home; averaging

200+ dates a year, trekking over 200,000 thousand miles spanning the country dozens of times over,

blowing minds and building a loyal following everywhere he goes.

2014 marked a breakout year for Frasco, highlighted by the release of the band’s 3 rd full-length studio

album Half A Man, a host of high profile festival performances both domestically and overseas, and

recognition from national press outlets such as Pollstar, Live For Live Music, and Relix.

Produced by Grammy Award Winning, Charles Goodan, Half A Man received warm praise from press

and fans alike, charting in the top 10 of Relix/Jambands.com Radio Chart for nearly 6 months, while the

road highlighted featured performances on festivals like Wakarusa, Electric Forrest, and YSMB’s

Harvest Festival in the US, and festivals like Zwarte Cross (NL), King’s Day Festival (DE), Bamberg Jazz

Festival (DE), Guezenpop Festival (NL), and the COTAI Jazz & Blues Festival in Macau, China.

To date, Andy has shared the stage and performed with artists such as Leon Russell, Galactic, Jackie

Greene, Gary Clark Jr, Jakob Dylan, Butch Walker, Deer Tick, John Mayer, Karl Denson’s Tiny

Universe, Fishbone, Lukas Nelson, JJ Grey & Mofro, Lettuce and more.

Continuing to build off the success of 2014, Frasco & the U.N. continued to pick up momentum both at

home and abroad in 2015 with featured performances at SXSW, Wakarusa, Phases of the Moon, and

Backwoods Music Festival in the U.S., as well as Totaal Festival (NL), a return to Zwarte Cross (NL),

Open Flair Festival (DE), and Open Air Gross Lindow (DE) overseas.

Amidst another heavy year of touring the band also recorded their 4 th full-length studio album, “Happy

Bastards”, set for release by Ruf Records on February 26, 2016 with producer Rick Parker (Lord Huron,

                      Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Sugarcult).

                      The Goddamn Gallows

The Goddamn Gallows formed in 2004 by founding members and Lansing/Detroit natives Mikey Classic on guitar and vocals, Fishgutzzz on upright bass, and Amanda Kill on drums -replaced by current drummer Uriah Baker (aka; "Baby Genius") in 2006. The trio started out migrating around the West for a time, holing up in Hollywood squats and squalid apartments, before releasing several albums: The Gallows EP (2004), Life of Sin (2005), and Gutterbilly Blues (2007), and finally hitting the road nearly full-time to establish their presence in the psychobilly-country scene while honing their self-described "twanged-out punk rock gutterbilly".
In 2009 the addition of Avery, a fire-breathing, accordion and washboard player, as well as Jayke Orvis (formerly of the .357 String Band) on mandolin and banjo, prompted The Goddamn Gallows to explore many new directions with their songwriting and in their live performances. As evidenced on their most recent 2009 album, Ghost of The Rails, and as witnessed by their spectacular and tireless live shows, The Goddamn Gallows began to forge a path founded on their very own brand of contagious primeval abandon: an unpretentious and from-the-gut carnivalesque smorgasbord of parts old time revival, circus sideshow, and good old-fashioned rock and roll. The result falls dead center into a head on collision between something like a Western honky-tonk impromptu parking lot rodeo, and Suburbia (the 1983 Penelope Spheeris cult classic film, not the location).
Though still officially Michigan-based, they have toured relentlessly since 2007, practically living out of their van and regularly performing as many as 200 dates a year. They've supported such acts as Nekromantix, Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Mad Sin, The Legendary Shack Shakers, and even the King of Surf Guitar legend Dick Dale. They continue to rapidly grow a devoted following built on their visceral and volatile blend of multiple American music styles, and frenetic live energy -but still with just enough hardcore and punk influence to make your parents hate it.

                            Jahman Brahman

Jahman Brahman is a five-member collaboration originating from Columbus, Ohio in 2007. They currently reside in the mountains of Asheville, NC. The name Jahman Brahman emerged from the band’s goal to achieve ultimate musical cohesion: each instrument a facet of a single greater goal to deliver music from the heart of one. The band strives to leave the listener with thoughts of love, life, and the wonders experienced while being part of an extraordinary musical family.

Shred ‘N’ Flow is how Jahman Brahman describes their unique style, meaning dynamic sound with a wide breadth of influence, but a focus on rich and fluid progressions of energy. Each member’s musical intuition and influences are unique. From Classic Rock to Electronica to Punk to Jazz, elements from many genres are found in the band’s music. As a result the band pioneers new sounds as the coalescence of their diverse styles unfolds into powerful jams and creative compositions.

Providing the low end, Nate “Brother” Brown brings his own style of funked-out and super-fresh bass grooves. Layered on top are transcendent key strokes and myriad of effects, which highlight Justin Brown’s full and conscious lyrics. Drummer, Chuck Knott, provides a steady concrete pulse, the heartbeat for Casey Chanatry’s riveting guitar-work.

                                Spoonfed Tribe

Formed in the Fort Worth area in 1999, Spoonfed Tribe is a musical/visual group known for mesmerizing live shows combining hypnotic walls of percussion, psychedelic sonics and mind-expanding visuals. Since their debut, the Tribe has remained on the road, building a sizeable fan base inspired by appearances at music fests including Lollapalooza, Joshua Tree, Voodoo Music Experience and Wakarusa, sharing bills with acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Flaming Lips, Nine Inch Nails, Blues Traveler, Galactic and many more.

The band has released six albums, including 2010's Live from DFW and is in the process of recording the follow-up to 2007's Public Service Announcement, due in 2012.

"To describe a Spoonfed Tribe gathering would take too many words, talking too small to measure what is gained by the actual experience of it all. So, to do our best, imagine a show that captures all senses, presents all musical styles, glows with a fluorescent fury, and creates space to be different and unique, all while making you dance like an idiot!"

                                    Gekko

Formed in January of 2013 in KCMO, Gekko is a tight group with an unusually strong chemistry. With musical influences ranging from funk and soul to heavy metal and every thing in between, Gekko is a melting pot of different sounds. Dedicated to their craft, they strive for an intense live show.

Gekko's first studio album: "A Gecko Named Terrance" (2014), marks humble beginnings for the band and a search for their sound (and name). Funky bridges with intricate melodies, followed by sweeping chorus' makes for an incredible music experience. The transition of sounds between funk, to rock, to jazz, to postmodern, tied together by a fat bass, a soothing guitar, and a high rainfall of pitter-patter drums, give this album a thick airiness. Provoked by confidence edged with self-doubt, and fueled by angst, Gekkos's first " ...record has the ultimate way of convincing you to just relax.".

With a unique music style that is a mashup of many different genres. Their live performances are a combination of structured composition and free formed improvisation. Proficient with their instruments, Gekko introduces new concepts and melodies in their improvs with ease. Drifting in and out of thought-out melodic tunes and face-melting psycidellic improvisation, this band will keep you on your toes. Gekko is constantly bringing new songs into their ever growing grab bag of music, each performance is guaranteed to be one of a kind. Preforming on stages and for events such as the Wakarusa Music Festival, Paola Roots Festival, the Granada Theater, and many more, they are an experienced breed of musicians. Bringing the crowd into their world, there concerts are an experience that is not easily forgotten.

From Lawrence, Kansas, Sweet Ascent is a four-piece rock band comprised of Jordan Rebman, Bobby Louden, Jake Dorn, and Allex Wilson. Beginning in 2012, the group has undergone many changes both in membership and style to become the ensemble they are today. From humble basement beginnings, the journey of Sweet Ascent has taken no short cuts. The group has released three 5-track EPs, and although earlier songs tell stories of young love and following dreams, the EP 'WAR' was a turning point in style and sound, shaping the band's future. 'WAR' is the journal of a group facing the end of what has been an incredible battle. Its deep lyrics, well thought concept, and newfound rock roots are what held the band together and allowed it to emerge stronger than ever.

The fire rages on for the powerhouse trio from Kansas, Split Lip Rayfield (SLR), as they celebrate the release of their new record, "I’ll Be Around." The new album showcases the songwriting talents of mandolin player Wayne Gottstine and banjo player Eric Mardis, tied together by the harmony and deep-bass licks of Jeff Eaton. Such songs as "Aces High," "Heart of Darkness," and "The High Price of Necromancy" will take listeners on a journey of love, loss, change, and dark powers, as they discover what lies in the mysterious minds of SLR. The song for which the album is named, "I’ll Be Around," serves as a tribute to the band’s fallen teammate Kirk Rundstrom, whose influence on the band and its path was great. Rundstrom’s legacy continues to live on in the new album and also the band itself as every live show is dedicated to his memory. Split Lip Rayfield has carved out their own genre of music with their unique sound and instrumentation. Often described as a mix of bluegrass and country with an accent of metal, no other band delivers the experience of the homemade gas-tank bass played by Jeff Eaton, sets the mandolin strings on fire like Wayne Gottstine, or makes the banjo sing like Eric Mardis. Together, they burn up speakers and stages alike providing an unforgettable experience.

KANSAS CITY, MO – Ruf Records announces a September 10 U.S. release date for Black Wind Howlin’, the new CD from blues-rock guitarist/singer Samantha Fish and follow-up to her 2012 Blues Music Award-winning label debut, Runaway. Produced by Mike Zito, who did the same honors on her last album, Black Wind Howlin’ was recorded at Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana, and features Samantha’s blazing guitar and vocals backed by Mike Zito on guitar and vocals, plus his fellow Royal Southern Brotherhood members Yonrico Scott on drums/percussion and Charlie Wooton on bass. Special guests include Paul Thorn on vocals, Johnny Sansone on harmonica and Bo Thomas on fiddle.

Kansas City-based Samantha Fish has been on a major roll ever since she teamed up with Cassie Taylor and Dani Wilde on Ruf’s 2011 release, Girls with Guitars, and fueled by the trio’s Blues Caravan tour of Europe and the U.S., created an international buzz in the blues world. Later that same year she recorded Runaway, her solo debut on Ruf, which mixed gutsy riff-blues rockers like “Down In The Swamp” with the mellow small-hours jazz of “Feelin’ Alright,” while marinating her songwriting in the groove of the Rolling Stones and even tipping a hat to Heart. “It’s all the sounds I grew up with,” she explained at the time, “with my own spin.” Earlier this year Samantha joined labelmate Devon Allman for a sultry duet of the Tom Petty classic, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” that appeared on Devon’s Turquoise CD and accompanying video.

Hitting a receptive international blues and rock press, Runaway was hailed as a thrilling opening statement, earning a string of rave reviews and radio airplay, climaxed by her winning the Blues Music Award (BMA) for “Best New Artist Debut” in 2012. “I’m truly humbled by the recognition,” Samantha said afterward. “I can barely wait to make record number two…”

Now, the wait is over, as Samantha Fish unleashes a major storm of her trademark guitar work and soulful vocals on Black Wind Howlin’. “It has a rebellious streak,” says the bandleader of her game-changing new album, “and a prevalent theme is, ‘I’m not gonna take your sh*t anymore…’”
No “sophomore slump” here, as Black Wind Howlin’ leaps from the speakers with 12 smoking tracks that chart Samantha’s evolution as songwriter, gunslinger and lyricist. “Since completing Runaway back in 2011, I’ve been on tour pretty much non-stop,” she proclaims. “I’ve spent a lot of time writing, playing and listening to music. I feel like the themes and the sound of my music have matured. To me, it’s about the human experience from my perspective, as well as people I’ve come into contact with over the last few years.”

Rather than trying to duplicate what she accomplished on her first success, Samantha re-defines her sound throughout the tracks on Black Wind Howlin’. She can be brutally rocking on cuts like the tour bus snapshot of “Miles To Go” (“Twelve hours to Reno/ten hours til the next show”), the swaggering “Sucker Born” (“Vegas left me weary, LA bled me dry/skating on fumes as I crossed the Nevada line…”) and the venomous “Go To Hell” (“Oh, this ain’t my first rodeo/You hit yourself a dead end/Your voodoo eyes, ain’t gonna cast a spell/So you can go to hell!”). “I’ve become tougher,” she notes of these head-banging moments, “and I think that was reflected in the sound we went for.”

And yet, elsewhere, backed by the versatile production of longtime collaborator Mike Zito, you’ll find Samantha shifting gears to the aching slide-guitar balladry of “Over You” (“Echoing words, said I’d never make it on my own…”) and the redemptive country song, “Last September” (“Don’t remember the curves of my face/Can’t feel the warmth in my embrace/Well I’m here to remind you…”).

She might stop off for a gritty cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Who’s Been Talking,” and co-wrote “Go to Hell” with Zito, but all other tracks are Samantha’s self-penned originals, and it’s a mix that will keep listeners on their toes. “I wanted this record to have a modern rocking sound,” she explains of the album’s vibe. “I also wanted it to have elements of Americana, country and roots.”

For Samantha, the recording sessions proved just as rewarding as the writing “I had a dream team of musicians and special guests,” she recalls. “And Dockside Studios quickly became one of my favorite places on earth.”

It hasn’t been that long since a teenaged Samantha Fish first started showing up at her local Kansas City blues club, Knuckleheads Saloon, and began soaking up the sounds of visiting modern blues guitar masters like Mike Zito and Tab Benoit, then going back to ’80s heroes like Stevie Ray Vaughan and following the lineage to the pre-war Delta masters. “I fell in love with it,” she told Premier Guitar of her growing passion for the form, “and started doing my homework by listening to the old guys like Son House and Skip James.”

With those influences as her template, Samantha incorporated the sounds of the classic rock of The Rolling Stones and Tom Petty, alongside contemporary artists like Sheryl Crow and The Black Crowes, in putting together a sound that would become her own.

By the age of 18, Samantha had settled on a searing lead guitar style that expressed her own voice rather than mimicking clichéd blues licks note-for-note. She quickly broke into a dues-paying period on the Kansas City jam circuit: an apprenticeship at the sharp end that tightened her musical chops, polished her stagecraft and gave her the grit to overcome occasional skepticism about her age, hair tone and gender. “I always hated the idea of the gimmick,” she told Premier Guitar. “People come out just because you are a girl, but then you have so much more to prove once you get them in the door.” And Samantha has delivered on that promise, as evidenced by one listen to the new recording. “I really got to do exactly what I wanted to do on Black Wind Howlin’,” she says, “and I’m incredibly proud of it.”

Samantha Fish will support the release of her new album with constant touring. For more information on the artist, visit www.samanthafish.com and www.rufrecords.de.

Hosted by 2013 Air Guitar World Champ Eric "Mean" Melin!

You have to see it to believe it. Air superiority wanted to represent LFK. No guitars allowed. This is an official qualifying competition that feeds into the Air Guitar World Championships in Finland!

Come witness an historic event - Lawrence's second official competitive air guitar show! Last year's show was insane, as two Lawrence-based shredders, Rockward Silence and Eddie Hans Flailin', advanced at The Bottleneck, through the Semifinals, all the way to US Air Guitar National Finals in Austin TX! This year, we're looking for some more local talent to show off some ridiculous facemelting skills for a chance to perform on the world stage.

A panel of celebrity judges will choose two winners from this show to advance in bracketed international air guitar competition. Winners from US Air Guitar shows across the country will be flown to a-yet-to-be-disclosed city in late July/early August to compete in the US Air Guitar National Championships for the crown of US Air Guitar Champion. The US champ will then be sent to Oulu, Finland later that month to represent the USA in the World Championships, where he or she will compete against national champions from all around the world.

Founded in 2003, US Air Guitar is the official Air Guitar Association of the United States and is responsible for operating the US Air Guitar Championships, official regional events, and specialized championships. US Air Guitar is devoted to taking our nation's unofficial pastime out of the bedroom and putting it up on the world stage. US Air Guitar is an official member of the World Air Guitar Association.

In Round 1, each competitor performs to a song of their own choosing. In Round 2, the top competitors from Round 1 perform to a surprise compulsory song. In each round, contestants perform for one minute of a song and are judged on a combination of technical merit, stage presence, and “airness." All guitars must be invisible. In each city, the jury is a panel of independent judges. The results of the jury cannot be protested.

                                                                The Steel Wheels

The Steel Wheels have captured audiences across the country with their heady brew of original soulful mountain music and their deep commitment to roots and community. Based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, this dynamic four-piece string band marries old-time musical traditions with their own innovative sound and lifestyle, generating a truly magnetic revival.

The Steel Wheels is an amalgamation of hard work and easy rapport. The band is renowned for their raw energy and chemistry on stage, where they often cluster tightly around a single microphone to adorn Trent Wagler’s unmistakable tenor with bell-clear four-part harmonies inspired by their shared Mennonite heritage. Add to this Eric Brubaker’s lively and evocative fiddle, Brian Dickel’s grounded yet buoyant upright bass, and Jay Lapp’s signature mandolin style, and it’s no surprise that The Steel Wheels have enthralled the contemporary Americana scene.

Their breakout album, Red Wing, garnered critical praise and enjoyed tremendous success on the radio. It spent 13 weeks on the Americana Music Association’s Top 40 Chart, where it reached the number 15 slot, and cracked the Euro Americana Chart top 10. Red Wing ranked 70th out of the top 100 Americana albums of 2010 and second out of all independent releases (Americana Music Association). The Steel Wheels were nominated for five Independent Music Awards in 2010, with “Nothing You Can’t Lose” taking top honors as Best Country Song. The Steel Wheels continue to take the Americana scene by storm with their latest album, Lay Down, Lay Low, which lingered for 10 weeks on the AMA’s Top 40 Chart. NPR named “Rain in the Valley” their Song of the Day, marveling that the “heavy hymn […] is sparse and dense all at once.” Already celebrated as the darlings of Merlefest 2012, the band looks forward to further accolades during a phenomenal festival line-up.

As the band thrives, so do their partnerships with local businesses, artisans, and charitable organizations. The values portrayed in their music—devotion to roots, community, and family—are a way of life for The Steel Wheels, and this is reflected in everything from production process and booking agency to merchandise and touring. For the past three years, they have performed an annual SpokeSongs bicycle music tour, during which band members tow their instruments, equipment, and merchandise from one gig to another via bicycle and blog about their adventures. Last year’s tour spanned 11 days, 550 miles, and 10 shows. This year’s tour included multiple charity rides, such as Lose The Training Wheels, Charity Ride for Kids, and Wheels Up for Cory.

The band’s merchandise represents a host of grassroots connections to people and businesses. Lucas Roasting Company, located just outside of Harrisonburg, created “Halfway to Heaven” dark roast coffee in honor of their friends The Steel Wheels. Blue Mountain Brewery, located on Afton Mountain in Virginia, hosted the band when they were just getting started and now sells a “Steel Wheels ESB.” The Livery’s master brewer rode with the band on their second bike tour and, soon after, created their “Steel Wheels Stout.” The band’s T-shirts are made in downtown Harrisonburg, and a potter who is a childhood friend of Jay’s makes their mugs. Each business is local for the band, and each product is intimately woven into their narrative. The Steel Wheels are proof that music remains a viable and sustaining force for connection in our world.

Clearly inspired by the sounds of the 90’s rap era and the messages within classic reggae music, the content of his work is both progressive and uplifting. Having captured the attention of listeners across the Midwest, the ripples of Weaver’s progress are reaching beyond his local beginnings in Lawrence, Kansas. He continues to experiment with his sound, sometimes incorporating a live band into his performances. Listeners are drawn to his innovative approach and inviting, interactive stage presence. There is much to be anticipated from this young artist.

Fierce, aggressive and from the street, hip-hop is often filled with bravado and fronting. It’s rare to find an artist who walks it like he talks it.

                                                                                  Staxx is that artist.

Born into a tumultuous life in Taunton, Mass., and blessed with innate talent, Staxx was on his way to becoming a statistic: broken home, high school dropout, determined to be a rapper but lacking direction and focus. Despite difficult times, a hardened past and a life
of struggle, music always brought him back to center. Now he’s ready to share his experiences with the world.

Staxx wrote his debut album, Writin' My Mind. It was produced, recorded and mixed by respected up and coming industry producer Lü Balz, whose many credits include, but are not limited to, tracks for Juvenile, Rachel Loy, Tyga, Sugar Ray and Speech from Arrested Development, television commercials, and songs placements in major motion pictures and television series.
His partnership with Staxx kicks off with first single “Turn You On,” featuring Brian Angel of Day26 (Bronx Bridge Entertainment, Inc./Fontana), launching a powerful new team and a step forward in hip-hop’s positive resurgence.

“Hip-hop has changed dramatically,” says Staxx. “It has received an increasing amount of criticism over the past decade because of the downward spiral of lyrical content and the upward spiral of an electronic sound that hip-hop experts claim is NOT hip-hop. I can’t deny the fact that music has changed immensely since the emergence of hip-hop as a globally recognized genre of music. But just because the music is evolving doesn’t mean the message has to evolve with it.”

What makes this young man so special is his talent for creating radio-friendly music without compromising his personal message. Staxx writes from the heart. Staxx is the best of both worlds.

Staxx has been recording professionally since his late teens, working diligently to find the right producers, learn his way around a studio, and surround himself with people who could grow with him and support his vision. At 23, he met Lü Balz. “He had everything I was missing,” says Staxx. “I knew he could take me to the next level.” He also met his manager, Tony Spears. With all of the pieces in place, Staxx was ready to conquer the music industry … until one mistake brought his world to a crashing halt.

Serving time, he says, was a wakeup call and a cold lesson in reality: his career was likely over, his record deal was gone, his girlfriend broke up with him and his manager wanted nothing to do with him. Released after doing his term, “I was on the verge of suicide,” he says candidly. “I was heartbroken. I drank a lot and I felt
I had no purpose in my life.” Despondent and convinced that he’d lost everything, Staxx ran away with the carnival — literally. Oddly enough, it was there that he regained his drive for music, motivated by a supervisor who learned of his talent and couldn’t bear to see it
wasted. He began writing again, applying himself and convincing Lü Balz and Tony Spears that he was a new Staxx. “They thought I was nothing but trouble,” he admits, “a kid with no direction in my life. I got them back onboard with my work ethic. I never stopped. They saw
my drive and that I was willing to do anything to make it. I knew I was

With a new single, upcoming debut album and new outlook, Staxx is ready to take the music world by storm. Most importantly, he says, the past has made the present stronger, and he’s looking forward to
                                                                                  the future.

I recognized that over time. Some people fold and can’t take it. I deflect and deal
with it because the worst thing could happen and hurt me, but it’s not going to stop me like it did before. There’s a quote I heard as a kid that has always stayed with me: ‘Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.’ I want to be inspirational and let people know that no matter how difficult the circumstances, it’s up to you to change and make something of yourself. I wrote lyrics about how if I make it or if I fail, it’s mine.

“I’ve been blessed with a lot of great people in my life, friends and family who stood by me, have been hurt by me, who were there for me when all I had to offer was myself. I can’t imagine what they went through, seeing me destroying myself. I hated myself. I killed myself
without killing myself and I don’t live like that today. My glass is half full now and am looking to fill it instead of seeing it half empty and draining it.”

Their catchy melodies, big harmonies, tasteful solos, and funky grooves easily create songs you can dance to. Deitra Magazine describes Groovement's music as "a surprising find of funky original tunes that got the crowd boogying out of their seats, as well as some unique renditions of unexpected covers."

In addition to their decorated singer, the band posseses many years of professional experience and over 30 local award show nominations. This all-star lineup includes Adam Becker (keyboards, organ, synth); Trey Burkett (guitar, vocals); Bryan Burkhart (drums, vocals); Jacob Johnson (sax, guitar, vocals); and Randy Soller (bass, vocals).

Skating Polly, a sister duo from Oklahoma made up of Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, formed in 2009 after a jam session at the girls’ Halloween party. Their sophomore album, Lost Wonderfuls, was produced by Exene Cervenka of X and mixed by Kliph Scurlock of The Flaming Lips. Lost Wonderfuls was released in April, 2013. They are now working on their third album, Fuzz Steilacoom, set to be released early 2014. Fuzz Steilacoom was tracked by Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening.
Raised on ‘70s punk and early-‘90s alt-rock, Mayo (age 13) and Bighorse (18) mine inspiration from artists as disparate as Johnny Cash, The Ramones, NWA, Nirvana, and Bikini Kill and saturate their own songs with a raw energy reminiscent of their musical heroes. Skating Polly takes a minimalist approach to songwriting, with the two largely self-taught musicians (Bighorse plays guitar, Mayo plays a guitar/bass hybrid called a basitar, and both girls play drums and piano) crafting super-catchy melodies mainly by “messing around with our instruments and figuring out how to make cool noises,” according to Bighorse. But despite their stripped-down aesthetic, each track on Lost Wonderfuls retains a rich emotionalism that’s at turns brutally in-your-face, gut-wrenchingly tender, and irresistibly fun.

Tapping Mayo’s dad as their tour manager, the stepsisters typically hit the road with their entire family and optimize their travel time by making up songs on their ukulele.
Both Mayo and Bighorse are intent on ignoring what’s fashionable and staying true to their passion for challenging music with long-lasting appeal. “The musicians we’re most inspired by are the ones who keep on going and going, who devote their entire lives to coming up with new and different stuff,” says Mayo. “A lot of times at our shows people will come up to us and tell us, ‘Keep on doing what you’re doing, don’t ever stop’ and we’re just like, ‘Yeah—we weren’t planning on ever stopping.”

Few know this better than Adam Lee & the Dead Horse Sound Company, the Kansas City trio who put their original spin on that classic country sound. With the upcoming release of their sophmore album, 'When the Spirits Move Me,' Lee and company touch on many of the elements so familiar to their life on the road. From wild nigh
ts in far away towns, to barroom brawls and goodbye kisses, the band expertly explain their travelling life. All with the swingin' shuffles and country flair of your favorite 45's. But then again, winding highways and endless mile markers are something they know well. Upon completion of their first record, 'Ghostly Fires,' the band commenced a wide-spread and heavy touring schedule, playing over 100 shows and half of the US in their first year alone. Since the release of 'Ghostly Fires' the band has also spent a good deal of time refining their already unique sound. While their first album touches on the more subtle tones of Americana, 'When the Spirits Move Me' focuses on the band's affinity for classic country. Twelve tracks of heartbreaking honky tonk that sound right at home in the swingin beer joints and rural roadhouses the band often plays. Leading the way is Adam Lee whose basement baritone perfectly presents the highs and lows of life on the road. Joining Lee are Johnny Kay (electric guitar, mandolin) and Boomerang Dave Bruchmann (upright bass), and when this train starts a-chuggin, folks had better hold on. It's something that comes naturally to the band, just like the country music they play. While you may have heard country music, you've never heard (or seen) it like this. Their live show is a rowdy and rollicking good time full of all original honky tonk music -- songs to drink to, cry to, and most of all dance to. So bring a date, grab a drink, and don't forget your dancin' shoes. Adam Lee & the Dead Horse Sound Company are headed down the highway, and there's no end in sight.

Forming in early 2002, they've been honing their songs and craft in bars and pubs across North Louisiana, Southern Arkansas, and east Texas. After winning the Shreveport Times Battle of the Bands in January 2006, doors have really been opening. Now playing festivals like Voodoo Music Experience in NOLA, Wakarusa Music Festival in Lawrence, KS, Diversafest in Tulsa, OK, Mulberry Mountain Harvest Music Festival in Ozark, AR, Cutting Edge Music Festival in New Orleans, LA, Red River Revel in Shreveport, LA, Northgate Music Fetival, College Station, TX, etc, and playing major markets like Austin, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, etc, things are definitely looking up.

Led by the organic writings of Matt Hazelton with each player adding his own flavor and feeling to the songs and sound of the group, Dirtfoot is a blend of eclectic styles as well as diverse personalities. By far, their claim to fame is their high energy shows and overwhelming crowd participation. They involve the fans with infectious grooves, call and response songs as well as their famous "Beancans'. Each show, bean cans (homemade shakers) are passed out to the audience which turns them into a part of the percussion section. Though all of their instruments are acoustic, their energy and ingenuity will make you swear they are plugged in. Featuring instruments ranging from an acoustic guitar, banjo, upright bass, pots n' pans, drums, bells, saxophone, xylophone and more, this band has a truly engaging sound, a real dose of Gypsy, Punk, Country, Grumble Boogie! It is like a good gumbo - you have some growling vocals, upright bass and percussion that makes a good, dark, dirty Louisiana roux, mixed heartily with some meaty rhythms, combined liberally with fresh offerings from the guitar and banjo that are like okra and tomatoes picked from your backyard garden, topped with the hot n' sexy spice of the saxophone and jazz style drums, and finally a little something magical and indescribable, and you have Dirtfoot - a delicious, spicy, dirty band that will make you stomp your feet, shake your ass and yell like a lunatic on a full moon night.

With a barrage of spaced-out, razor-sharp guitars, a grooving rhythmic onslaught, and melodic keyboard tapestries, The Philistines take vintage ideas and form them into modern psychedelic sonic movements.

The six-piece group has made a name for itself with forceful, engaging live shows that match its provocative, bombastic rock sound. Since The Philistines' inception in late 2013, they have become one of Kansas City’s most recognized bands, supporting prominent touring acts, playing prestigious music festivals (including Middle of the Map Fest, Crossroads Music Fest, and Alejandro Escovedo’s SXSW Day Party), and receiving a healthy amount of accolades in the local media.

Engineered and produced by Paul Malinowski (Shiner), The Philistines released their debut album "The Backbone of Night" on The Record Machine in mid-2016. The full-length has been met with critical acclaim, described by The Obelisk as "a foundation of psych, garage and desert-style rock that they can shape as they please, and the control they demonstrate over that process bodes remarkably well." The album is available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats.
